Like most major automakers, Volkswagen have begun making the switch toward electric vehicles. But unlike many other brands who are converting their existing lineups to hybrids or full EVs, VW have launched an entire new series of cars powered fully by electric technology. The all-new electric VW models are branded with the ID label, and here's what we know so far about the range.
Current 2022 VW ID Models
The first member of the ID family to go into production was the ID.4, a compact SUV with a streamlined design and a highly advanced powertrain. The ID.4 is rear-wheel drive as standard, with an output of 201 horsepower to provide responsive acceleration. However, the model is also available in the all-wheel drive format, and this version boasts an output of more than 300 horsepower, making for an extremely powerful compact crossover.
But whichever version of the ID.4 you choose, you'll enjoy up to 400km of all-electric driving range, with a fast charge capability adding 100km of range in roughly ten minutes. What's more, the interior of the ID.4 is just as advanced as the engineering, with standard features including a 12" infotainment touchscreen, a wireless device connection facility, and voice recognition software to control the major features.

But the ID.4 is only the starting point for a much larger ID lineup that's just around the corner. There are two confirmed vehicles arriving soon, with the ID.5 building on the basic design of the ID.4 but adding an extra layer of sports performance and design flair, to produce an EV with both character and power.
A little further down the line is the upcoming ID.8, which promises to be an all-electric three-row SUV with plenty of power under the hood and an impressive driving range approaching 600km.
Signs of the Future: VW ID Concept Cars
Lastly, VW has hinted at an even more advanced lineup with details of two future ID concept cars. The ID.R is focused on uncompromising high performance, and is already setting new record times on test circuits across the globe. And lastly, the ID.BUZZ is based on the iconic VW camper van design but adds an EV powertrain to take the classic into a new age.
