The upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 2024 is a fully electric sedan expected to hit Canadian shores next year. While at this stage, we don’t know much about the upcoming Passat-sized sedan, we can make numerous predictions based on Volkswagen’s previous modern electric vehicles. Volkswagen hopes to completely overhaul its current retinue with a full fleet of EVs carrying the ID moniker prefix.
In VW’s own words, ‘We are on the right track to becoming the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.” The roadmap is clear: with the ACCELERATE strategy, Volkswagen is stepping up the pace of its electric campaign with ten new electric models by 2026.’
Volkswagen has always had a more traditional feel when it comes to vehicle development, but the launch of the ID range promises more organic and streamlined shapes, innovative interiors, and, most importantly, more eco-conscious performance. Below we’ll take a look at some of the expectations that the motoring community on the whole has for this upcoming EV from Volkswagen.

What's New In 2024 - Highlights
The lineage of the ID.7 can be traced back to the ID. Vizzion concept and, subsequently, the ID. Aero concept. This large, fastback sedan is designed with a cabin-centric approach, short overhangs, and a long wheelbase of three meters to maximize passenger space, similar to many other electric vehicles.
The Volkswagen ID.7 2024 is built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB electric vehicle architecture and has a reported full-charge range of 700 kilometres. However, it is worth noting that this range is based on European testing standards, which tend to be approximately 25% more generous than Canadian standards. The car measures five meters from tip to tail.
Interior Layout and Options
As the recent CES reveal wasn’t a full reveal of the car and its capabilities, but more a teaser of what could be in store when the car releases, we don’t know all that much about the interior of the VW ID.7.
However, we can expect a similar look and feel to the already-released vehicles in the ID range. Therefore, we expect a luxurious but minimalist interior layout with an expansive infotainment screen and comfortable seating.
Volkswagen, like many other vehicle manufacturers invested in an electrified future, have set a new standard for EVs that sees them being furnished with more premium materials that are sustainably sourced. We expect no different of the Volkswagen ID.7 in Canada, especially as this will likely be VW’s new flagship in the EV market.
Exterior Layout and Options
Despite the high-tech camouflage paint job that did an impressive job of concealing some of the subtle design features of the exterior, the ID.7 is still very much aligned with Volkswagen's EV design language. Additionally, the car prioritizes aerodynamics with its sleek front section and a coupe-like roof that contribute to an excellent drag coefficient, although an exact number for this specification is unavailable.
Other aerodynamic enhancements include front air intakes that channel the air along the sides of the car towards the rear, creating an "air curtain" that stabilizes the airflow on the sides of the vehicle.
Technology, Infotainment, and Connectivity
The Volkswagen ID.7 2024 is expected to be equipped with various new technologies that will come as standard. These features include a new display setup, an augmented-reality head-up display, a 15-inch display screen, illuminated touch sliders, and a digitally controlled air conditioning system with adjustable vents.
The air conditioning system is referred to as a "smart" system as it can recognize when the driver is nearing the car with their key and begin cooling the interior on hot days or warming it up on cold days, all before the driver enters the car.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
It is anticipated that the VW ID.7 will be equipped with an advanced suite of safety features, such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, the car may have advanced driver assistance features, such as a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The VW ID.7 is expected to be built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB electric vehicle platform, which has been designed to prioritize safety and offers a secure and stable foundation for the car.
To provide maximum protection for passengers, the car may feature a reinforced body structure and other safety enhancements like airbags and advanced braking systems. The VW ID.7 could also come with the latest driver assistance technologies, like automated parking, traffic jam assist, and remote vehicle monitoring via a smartphone app.
