Volkswagen is introducing an all-new compact SUV for the 2022 model year--the Volkswagen Taos. It delivers style, space, and powerful German engineering in a sculpted package. However, perhaps the most unique feature of the Taos is something that does not come standard--the Basecamp package.
Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Concept
The Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Concept was inspired by the positive response to the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Concept and the Basecamp accessories line offered for Atlas models. This one-of-a-kind build gets rave reviews as it highlights the adaptability and adventurous style of the Taos, not just its comfortable driving. The Taos Basecamp Concept features bold fender flares, all-terrain wheels and tires, and a new colour scheme that allows it to stand out from other Taos trim levels. It features contrasting silver rocker cladding on the front and rear skid plates that complement the SUV's rugged appearance. The exterior stands out with Waimea blue paint accentuated by gloss black trim elements and a matte black hood and roof. Basecamp badges, mirror caps, and side decals are painted in bright orange to bring attention to the Basecamp concept.
Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Review - A Capable Off-Roader
Volkswagen has already created capable SUVs, but the Basecamp Concept allows drivers to take that capability off road for the first time. Key features were upgraded to assist in tackling tough trails. This includes a raised suspension, custom Traverse MX wheels, and accustom roof basket with integrated off-road LED lighting. The interior of the Taos Basecamp Concept also differs from the regular model inside thanks to a custom cargo divider, which allows drivers to store their sporting accessories and climbing gear in a safe and secure way.
Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Availability
Volkswagen did not waste any time in transferring the Taos Basecamp from concept to design. Just two weeks after unveiling the concept, it was introduced as a production model. It is available throughout Canada not as a separate model of the Taos but instead as an appearance package that buyers can add from the new line of accessories available for the Taos. The all-new Volkswagen Taos, with the available Basecamp package, will launch in Canada in Late Summer 2021. Drivers can choose from three two trim levels: Comfortline and Highline. Starting at $32,395, the Taos provides a variety of standard features and iconic German engineering at a value price. The Basecamp package will add about $1,000 to the base price. The true Basecamp offering differs slightly from the concept vehicle, though that could change over time. The orange accents and roof basket here were a part of the concept did not seem to transfer over to the production model.
2022 Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Concept Review
Overall, the upgrades provided by the Basecamp package are well worth the money for drivers who want additional capability out of their Volkswagen Taos. The Taos is a spacious and capable vehicle is a great choice for drivers who want to keep their eyes on the road, but the addition of the Basecamp package opens up the vehicle to another set of drivers who want more capability and off-road-readiness.
